Michigan State basketball recently got a commitment from four-star forward Marcus Bingham Jr. who’s now the state’s top recruit, per Rivals.

Tom Izzo has an eye for talent. Just one day after missing out on four-star forward Brandon Johns, the Hall of Fame head coach got a commitment from Marcus Bingham Jr. Michigan State fans didn’t quite see how that was a win for the Spartans, but it’s becoming more evident now.

Unfortunately, fans are locked into following just rankings without watching any film on players, so those who had seen Bingham Jr. play knew what was going to happen. A jump in the rankings was inevitable, and it finally came.

According to Rivals.com, Bingham Jr. is now the top recruit in the state of Michigan, surpassing Johns.

Bingham Jr. made the leap all the way to No. 54 and even jumped in the 247Sports rankings to No. 67 over the past week after being listed in the 100-range. He’s the composite No. 75 player in the country, but Rivals views his potential highest.

As you can see from the new Rivals rankings, Michigan State has four players in the top 100. Foster Loyer, a four-star point guard, is 65th, four-star forward Gabe Brown is 92nd and fellow four-star forward Thomas Kithier is 95th. The class is shaping up quite nicely.

The Grand Rapids-native, however, is rising quickly in the rankings like many have predicted and it’s also widely believed that he’s not done just yet. Some believe he could be a five-star before it’s all said and done.
