Former Michigan State basketball star Matt Costello put a Denver defender on a poster while playing for the Timberwolves in the NBA Summer League Sunday.

Ever since his high school days, Matt Costello was an aggressive basketball player. When he committed to play Michigan State basketball, Tom Izzo knew he’d be getting a hard-nosed Big Ten-type player who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty in the post.

Oh yeah, and he’s quite the character. Not many former players would have gotten away with picking the Hall of Fame head coach up by the waist and twirling him around like Costello did during a home game against Maryland during his senior year.

Moreover, Costello was one of the most improved players Izzo had ever coached. As a freshman and sophomore, he barely scratched the surface of his potential, but his junior and senior seasons were complete turnarounds. He was a completely different player and became the animal Izzo knew he was inside.

Although Costello went undrafted, he has signed with multiple NBA Summer League teams over the past two years, most recently the Timberwolves.

On Sunday, he had a heck of a game and highlighted it with a posterization of a poor Nuggets defender. Just watch:

The former Spartan finished the game with 12 points and 15 rebounds, leading the Timberwolves to a Summer League win over the Nuggets. That dunk was easily the play of the game and might open some eyes in the front office.
