After suffering injuries in a jet-ski accident, Michigan State football incoming freshman Lashawn Paulino-Bell has made his way to campus.

Less than three months ago, Michigan State football was hoping that injuries Lashawn Paulino-Bell suffered in a jet-ski accident wouldn’t affect him long-term and he’d be able to join the Spartans over the summer.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound defensive end has high expectations surrounding him and now that he’s in recovery mode, he should be ready for the start of the 2017 season. The only question is whether or not the coaching staff will want to redshirt him.

Given the lack of depth on the defensive line, it seems more likely that Paulino-Bell plays as a true freshman and actually competes for starting time. There has been so much offseason attrition on the defensive line, especially at end. Demetrius Cooper has been in trouble off the field, Cassius Peat was told not to come to campus and both Josh King and Auston Robertson were booted from the team for separate sexual assault charges.

Mark Dantonio is glad to retain Paulino-Bell’s commitment this past year as it looked like other programs were trying to court him. He’s more relieved that the talented end is healthy and didn’t suffer any major injuries from the accident.
