Former Michigan State basketball star Bryn Forbes goes off in NBA Summer League
Former Michigan State basketball star Bryn Forbes absolutely went off on the Celtics during Wednesday’s NBA Summer League contest.
Bryn Forbes had a memorable two-year college career with Michigan State following his transfer from Cleveland State. He was one of the best shooters Tom Izzo had ever coached and improved his worth in NBA circles with a 48 percent 3-point shooting clip during his senior season.

Although his career with the Spartans ended on a sour note (yes, I’m talking about Middle Tennessee), Forbes made it his mission to land on an NBA roster prior to the 2016-17 campaign.
Forbes went undrafted in 2016 as he watched teammate, and good friend, Denzel Valentine go in the first round to the Bulls. He was then signed by the Spurs and eventually cracked the active roster and made the most of his opportunities.
In year two, he’s looking to make an even bigger splash. If his showing in the NBA Summer League is any indication, he’s on track to have a larger role with the Spurs in 2017-18. He put up a game-high 31 points on Wednesday night, leading San Antonio past the Celtics.
Forbes finished the game 12-of-20 and his silky-smooth shot was in full effect. He was draining running jumpers, 3-pointers and contested layups left and right. Heck, he even made a 3-pointer and-one.
There’s a major need for shooters in today’s NBA and Forbes is just that. Gregg Popovich could make room for the second-year shooting guard from Michigan State if he continues to show improvement.
