Michigan landed Michigan State target Brandon Johns (from East Lansing) on Thursday at noon and shortly after, Bingham Jr. announced that he would be making his choice on Friday at the same time. Some were worried that it meant a potential package deal to Michigan, but the latter was never offered by the Wolverines.

There were rumors that Tom Izzo had cooled on Johns, but even so, he’s considered by many to be the most talented player in the class. Bingham Jr.’s commitment could give some insight as to why Johns didn’t wait around and committed on Thursday.

Moreover, there are many scouts who believe Bingham Jr. could be Michigan State’s highest-rated recruit before it’s all said and done. He’s currently listed as the No. 79 overall player in the class and second-best in the state of Michigan, according to the 247Sports‘ composite.

Bingham Jr.’s upside is tremendous, but he needs to add some weight to his slim 6-foot-10, 195-pound frame. Izzo will put him to work on adding muscle right away.
