Michigan State recruiting is getting a visit from four-star guard Mark Smith this weekend after it was rumored a week ago.

It was rumored about a week ago that Michigan State recruiting could get some good news in the form of a Mark Smith official visit. However, those were disputed by many who had sources close to the Smith family and it was unclear whether the Spartans would get a visit before he decided.

Fortunately, the rumors had some substance to them as it appears as if Smith will be taking a visit to East Lansing with his family this weekend.

The four-star point guard is one of Michigan State’s top remaining targets and could see plenty of early playing time as the Spartans are in need of wings. He’s listed as a point guard but could play any position from 1-to-3. He stands 6-foot-5 and can do it all from lead the offense, shoot, pass, rebound and defend.

If there was one former Spartan star who I’d compare him to, it’d be Denzel Valentine. He’s kind of your do-it-all type of player with a high basketball IQ. The Edwardsville, Ill., native was named Illinois’ Mr. Basketball in 2017 and would be a nice last-second addition to the class.

Michigan State and Tom Izzo will have to beat out Kentucky’s strong pitch as the Wildcats are paying him a visit on Thursday. It’s unclear whether his visit to East Lansing will be an official, but that’s big news for the Spartans.
