Special Teams: A+++++
Whooooo! It is sad that it has come to this but wow, when the special teams comes out and performs like it did against Maryland it is reason to celebrate, and let’s hope it continues, Spartan Nation.
Must Read: Michigan State football: 5 bold predictions for November
First, let’s start with Michael Geiger and his day. 1/1 on field goals, knocking it in from 35 yards to provide three much needed points. It seems like Geiger is kicking again with confidence as he did his freshman year. Against Ohio State will be the biggest test to see if he is truly back. He will most certainly be called upon and MSU needs him to come through as they will need every point they can get.
Jake Hartbarger, this kid should be known has legatron. I predict a Ray Guy award in his future. It looks like he has the problem of dropping snaps under control and has turned himself into a weapon. Hartbarger averaged 42.4 yards a punt with a long of 56 on the day; he was able to flip field position several times which is so important when you have a struggling defense.
The coverage team, I will be the first to admit I assumed Maryland would have a return touchdown with the dangerous Will Likely lurking. The coverage team was able to keep in him check, on punt and kick returns, Likely only had a total of 65 yards.
