Yup, pulled a good ‘ol switcheroo and went with someone other than a player. Let me start off by saying that Dave Warner does a very good job as Michigan State football’s offensive coordinator. This has been the most potent attack for the MSU offense and Warner is the driving proponent behind it.

However, I said very good, not great.

I completely understand Coach Dantonio’s philosophy and realize that Michigan State will always have balance between the run and pass. I’m not looking for MSU to turn into to Baylor, but I would love to take more advantage of the greatest quarterback in Spartan history and future NFL star.

Last week against Michigan, Connor Cook was the reason that the Spartans were close enough to win on the muffed punt return. When it was evident that the run game was not going to come around and MSU was down by 10 points, Warner unleashed Cook. The back shoulder throws, buying time in the pocket and overall fantastic play by Cook got the offense going.

My thoughts are that this needed to and needs to happen earlier in the game. Everyone in the world knows that MSU is going to run on first down, let’s switch that up. An entire column could be written on play calling of course. I will be keeping a close eye on Warner’s play-calling this week to see if he continues to let Cook fire more than usual.

Again, no air-raid offense is needed, but let’s take advantage of Connor Cook and the great passing game while it is still in East Lansing.
