Bye weeks usually come at the perfect time and for UCLA, this was it. Week six came and passed with the Bruins scouting the rest of the Pac-12 and preparing for Stanford. Coming off a tough loss at home to Arizona State, the Bruins’ true freshman sensation Josh Rosen will look to put his first career defeat behind him and get back to his winning ways. Rosen has passed for 1,244 yards and nine touchdowns this year.
Many people are already calling the Michigan vs. Michigan State game a done deal next week. No, not because the Spartans are ranked higher and should be favored, but because the Wolverines are the hottest team in college football right now, shutting out three straight opponents. College GameDay will be in attendance for next week’s contest in Ann Arbor versus the in-state rival Spartans.
It took Notre Dame over a half to really put Navy away in week six, but the Fighting Irish improve to 5-1 on the season even without starting quarterback Malik Zaire. DeShone Kizer is having a solid year in his place, though, passing for 1,143 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions while C.J. Prosise has done well in the run game and Will Fuller has been a reliable receiver as any.
A week removed from losing to the Florida Gators in blowout fashion, the Ole Miss Rebels had somewhat of a bye week, playing an inferior non-conference opponent — something that SEC teams like to mix into the middle of their conference schedules. Ole Miss defeated New Mexico State by a score of 52-3. Chad Kelly had a nice game, passing for 384 yards and three touchdowns while Laquon Treadwell caught eight passes for 136 yards and two scores.
Florida is on fire right now. The Gators just beat the No. 3 team in the nation a week ago at home by four scores and then hit the road to take on a decent Missouri squad, holding the Tigers to just three points in yet another solid win. Jim McElwain is on his way to being named SEC Coach of the Year if he continues to lead his team to 1-0 records each week.
