Boise State is another team that continues to impress this season despite not playing in a Power-Five conference. The Broncos are coming off a blowout win over Colorado State and freshman quarterback Brett Rypien is really showing up and showing off this year. In four-plus games, Rypien has passed for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns with just one pick.
Don’t look now, but Duke is once again proving to be more than just an elite basketball program. The Blue Devils are 5-1 on the year after putting a beatdown on the Army Black Knights in week six, 44-3. This team’s only loss was to a red-hot Northwestern team, but it has rebounded to win three straight since. Never count out David Cutcliffe’s squad.
Remember when no one was talking about Kirk Ferentz’s Iowa Hawkeyes to start the year as possible contenders in the Big Ten West? Well, the Hawkeyes are proving everyone wrong and they have come out of week six with an unbeaten record — still. Jordan Canzeri had the game of his career, rushing for 256 yards and a touchdown on 43 carries.
Not many people, including myself, expected Oklahoma State to go on the road and steal a win over West Virginia. It took overtime, but the Cowboys came out on top despite Mason Rudolph’s three interceptions. West Virginia out-gained the Cowboys 444-362, but that didn’t matter as Oklahoma State got the stops when it needed to, moving to 6-0 on the year.
With a week off, the Stanford Cardinal are preparing for a huge game on Thursday night against UCLA. The winner of that game will likely have the upper hand in the Pac-12 title race and it will be a big test for both teams. Kevin Hogan is having a resurgent season for the Cardinal and he will hope to continue that trend this week.
