5. Secondary will step up

Watching Michigan State games this season has been absolutely brutal. The Spartans’ secondary is one of the worst in the nation, ranking near the bottom of the Big Ten, and the country, in passing yards allowed per game. Mark Dantonio knows that a solution must be made moving forward, but it’s not clear who will change the tide for the MSU defensive backfield.

The Spartans have been looking very suspect against opponents’ passing attacks this season as Central Michigan, Oregon and Western Michigan have passed for over 300 yards against Michigan State.

Granted, all of the offenses Michigan State has faced this season, with the exception of Air Force, have had top-notch quarterbacks, and the Falcons even torched Michigan State’s secondary.

Demetrious Cox and R.J. Williamson look to be the strongest members of the group while Montae Nicholson and the combo of Arjen Colquhoun and Darian Hicks have left much to be desired.

Michigan State will step up big time against freshman starting quarterback David Blough and Darian Hicks will step up as the top dog at the cornerback position opposite Demetrious Cox. This is the game in which the ‘No Fly Zone’ will make a comeback.
