Michigan State begins Big Ten Conference play this week against the Purdue Boilermakers at Spartan Stadium for the annual Homecoming matchup. As alumni travel back to East Lansing, they are hoping for a breakout performance against the Big Ten bottom-feeder.

More from Spartans Football

While Purdue has struggled in recent years they have still given the Spartans all they can handle the past two times the teams have gotten together. Michigan State will look to put together their first complete game in all phases for the first time this season, hoping to make a statement to the rest of the conference.

After seeing the team through four non-conference games, Spartan Nation will be keeping its eye on improvements and imperfections we have seen in our No. 2-ranked team in the Michigan State vs Purdue matchup.

Will this be Connor Cook’s statement game, declaring himself the top dog at the quarterback position in the league? Does Montae Nicholson figure it out and start playing to his potential? Will the Spartan special teams allow another touchdown? Of course, many more questions will go through the minds of Spartan fans who will always want answers.

I’m going to take a look at five bold predictions that will take place during this game.

An easy way out would be to say that Connor Cook will throw for a touchdown or the Spartans will rush for over 100 yards. This is not the place for those kind of easy guesses; I will make predictions that will either hit home runs or miss badly like getting called out while looking at strike three.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the five bold predictions that will happen in the first Big Ten game of the season for the “Spartan Dawgs.”
