Michigan State basketball missed out on four-star power forward Joey Hauser as he chose Marquette on Sunday.

Just weeks after a visit to East Lansing which was rumored to be a game-changer, Michigan State basketball’s top remaining 2018 target, Joey Hauser, committed to Marquette.

The news broke on Sunday afternoon as it seemed like he wanted to play with his brother at Marquette as well as have an immediate impact. Could he have done that at Michigan State? The first part, no, but having an impact would have been likely.

What did the Spartans lose in Hauser as he chose Marquette? He’s a big that can stretch the floor and shoot the deep ball, but he also has the ability to back down defenders and really put the team on his back in the post.

Fortunately, Michigan State has Thomas Kithier and Marcus Bingham, Jr. in the post with the 2018 class and Gabe Brown can play anywhere from the one to the four. The Spartans will be looking to add four-star forward Talen Horton-Tucker or five-star guard Luguentz Dort.

The Spartans will be forced to move on from the four-star forward who’s ranked No. 31 in the 2018 class, according to 247Sports. Marquette is getting an impressive talent and this isn’t the first time the Golden Eagles have beaten the Spartans out for a big man — Henry Ellenson was also considering Michigan State a few years back.
