Michigan State football made the top three for 2018 two-star wide receiver A.J. Abbott from West Bloomfield, Mich.

After attending Michigan State’s football camp last weekend, the Spartans thought highly of West Bloomfield, Mich., two-star receiver A.J. Abbott. On Monday, he returned the favor, naming the Spartans in his top three.

Abbott, who is set to be teammates with fellow recently-offered receiver Taj Mustapha, he has transferred from Northville (Mich.) High. He could follow Trishton Jackson, a former West Bloomfield-native to the green and white.

While he might not be the most highly-touted wide out in the 2018 class, Abbott’s top three is not too shabby.

In fact, the two-star receiver from West Bloomfield named the Spartans along with Iowa and Wisconsin in his top three. Each of those schools has made it to a Big Ten Championship in the past five years and some more than once.

It’s clear that he wants to remain in the Big Ten and his 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame might be built for a role as a slot receiver. R.J. Shelton carved out that type of role with a smaller frame for the green and white, but he is also somewhat of a deep threat. Just watch his film.

Sure, he can take a short dump pass and make some moves, finishing with a big gain, but he’s also used to running “go” routes and burning cornerbacks and safeties for 50-plus yard touchdowns. He can do it all and that type of versatility earned him and offer from Michigan State at camp last weekend.
