Will Michigan be held accountable for post-Michigan State football game scuffle?

Will Michigan do the right thing and hold Kalel Mullings accountable?

Why does something always have to happen at the end of every Michigan vs. Michigan State football game now?

Two years ago we had the dreaded tunnel incident, and now during Michigan State’s 24-17 loss at the Big House on Saturday, we witnessed yet another disgusting moment in this rivalry. This time, however, it was Michigan that instigated it.

During the final play when Michigan was kneeling the game out, Michigan tight end Colston Loveland got helmet-to-helmet with an MSU player which caused a benches-clearing scuffle to erupt.

While that act by Loveland was bad enough, one of his teammates took things to another level.

Michigan RB Kalel Mullings appears to stomp Michigan State staffer

It was hard to see in the above clip, so we’ll share a better view below, but it appears that Michigan star running back Kalel Mullings (No. 20) may have stomped on a Michigan State staff member during the brawl.

Now to be fair to Mullings, this video does not 100 percent show him stomping on anyone. But you can see a Michigan State staff member on the ground and you can see Mullings making a stomping motion. Is there any other reason for him to be doing that? You can decide for yourself.

But if Mullings did in fact do that, then serious actions need to be taken against him.

The obvious punishment that would be heading Mullings way is a significant suspension. Not just a measly one or two games, but for the rest of the season.

You might be wondering where the idea for that length of time came from. That’s the amount of time Michigan State’s players from two years ago had to serve. So a similar act by Mullings surely deserves the same punishment.

But while we’re on the topic of similar punishments, does anyone remember what else happened to MSU’s players two years ago? Legal charges.

And who suggessted that? None other than Jim Harbaugh.

Michigan’s legendary head coach, the person they all refer to as the greatest “Michigan man” had the idea to charge those Michigan State players. So if it’s found out that Mullings did in fact stomp on someone, wouldn’t it only be fair for a similar punishment to be handed out?

Personally, I would hate for that to happen to anyone. I hated that it happened to Michigan State’s players two years ago. But Michigan made their bed; now they have to sleep in it.

Both Jonathan Smith and Sherrone Moore said the right things during their postgame press conferences on Saturday. Neither coach has handed out any suspensions at this point and that is the right decision while more evidence is collected. But with both coaches having another press conference very soon, it will be interesting to see what else is said.

I’ll be most interested to hear what Moore has to say, becuase it was his guys that started the brawl and his player that potentially stomped on a staff member.

Will Michigan finally take accountability for one single thing they do wrong? Their athletic programs love to run and hide when negative headlines come their way, but if Mullings in fact did what it appears he did then I hope Moore will do the right thing.
