With Tom Izzo back out on the recruiting trail this week, visiting a couple of his top 2026 targets on Wednesday, it got me thinking: who will be Michigan State basketball's next commit?

So far in the 2026 class, Izzo has landed four-star point guard Carlos Medlock Jr. who has gone from completely overlooked in the recruiting rankings to a top-70 prospect in the nation. Many believe that Medlock is going to be a special point guard for Izzo, and he has all the tools to lead the team when Jeremy Fears Jr. ultimately leaves.

There are still several top targets left on the board and about 3-4 open spots to fill. Izzo may elect to save one or two of those scholarships for the transfer portal, but I think he's more likely to utilize them in the 2026 recruiting class.

So who do I think is going to be Michigan State's next commit? That's a tough one to predict.

Who will be Michigan State basketball's next 2026 commit?

First off, can I just say how crazy it is that we're already talking about the 2026 class? It feels like just yesterday that we were talking about an elite class of Cassius Winston, Nick Ward, Josh Langford, and Miles Bridges. That was 10 (!!!) years ago now.

The Spartans could sign another elite class in 2026, and it could help Izzo chase national title No. 2. It's already off to a good start with Medlock, but who could be next?

My money has to be on Jasiah Jervis. The top-40 shooting guard (No. 3 SG in the class) has been one of the fastest risers in the country along with Medlock, and the staff has put in some serious work to ensure that he knows he's the top remaining priority. He canceled visits to Texas and Oregon, which means that he's closing in on a decision.

Jervis does still have upcoming trips to Tennessee and Florida in October, but I wouldn't be surprised to see one -- or both -- cancelled as Izzo continues to put on the full-court press.

I'd say that Michigan State probably leads here, given the number of times Izzo has been in to see him over the past month, but you can't count out the SEC contenders, and NC State. I still think Michigan State comes out on top when he does decide to commit, which could happen at any time. He's probably the closest to commit to Michigan State out of the remaining targets.

After him? I'd say Ethan Taylor and Maximo Adams are on an even playing field. We haven't heard a ton from Tristan Reed (just visited), Jalyn Collingwood (about to visit), or Julius Avent (Izzo just saw him on Wednesday), but they're all behind Jervis on my list of prospects who could commit next.

My pick is Jervis, and that should make MSU fans more than happy.
