We’re halfway through the 2026 college football season and we’ve finally reached the craziest week of the year. It only took seven weeks, but it’s going to be awfully difficult to top what we saw on Saturday.

Not only will there be a new No. 1 team after one of the craziest upsets of the season, but four other teams in the top 10 lost. That’s right, half of the top 10 went down in Week 7.

It helped that there were several ranked matchups that affected top-10 teams like No. 2 Notre Dame at No. 8 BYU, No. 6 Alabama at No. 14 Tennessee, No. 9 Ole Miss vs. No. 13 Missouri, and arguably the headliner, No. 5 Indiana vs. No. 4 Ohio State. The week was jam-packed with elite matchups and they went deep into the night.

There were some huge upsets but none was bigger than No. 1 Georgia losing at home to unranked Auburn one week after going to Tuscaloosa and beating Alabama.

That wasn’t the only massive top-10 upset of the week as No. 7 Texas blew yet another big lead to lose to unranked Florida in Austin. It seems like Steve Sarkisian’s seat is heating up and Arch Manning continues to struggle to meet expectations this season. Man, what Michigan State fans would give to have a “down” year after losing as the No. 7 team in the country. Soon, Spartan fans. Soon.

Tennessee manhandled Alabama in another top-15 “upset”, Ole Miss dominated Missouri, and Nick Marsh had an even more heartbreaking moment in the loss to Ohio State than the excruciating last-second defeat that his former team suffered at the hands of No. 25 Northwestern.

Notre Dame and BYU wrapped up the night with one of the most electric games of the week. A second-half comeback by Notre Dame had BYU on the ropes at home, but the Cougars responded with a huge go-ahead score with just under two minutes left. Notre Dame marched down the field and had a chance to win on a first-and-goal from the eight with four seconds left, but BYU got the stop and another signature win for Kalani Sitake.

So without further ado, it’s time to get into the Week 8 college football Top 25 rankings projections.

The Week 8 college football Top 25 will see a major shakeup

We’re going to see a new (old) No. 1 this week and it’ll be a Big Ten team. That’s right, the Big Ten reins supreme again.

Missouri, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State,

Note: Last week’s ranking in parentheses.

  1. Ohio State (4)
  2. BYU (8)
  3. Miami (3)
  4. Tennessee (14)
  5. Ole Miss (9)
  6. Texas Tech (10)
  7. Notre Dame (2)
  8. Georgia (1)
  9. Indiana (5)
  10. Kentucky (15)
  11. Utah (11)
  12. UCLA (12)
  13. Alabama (6)
  14. Iowa (17)
  15. Houston (20)

  21. Wake Forest (21)
  22. Missouri (13)
  23. Boise State (23)
  24. Northwestern (25)
  25. Nebraska/Oregon (NR)

There are going to be some big moves this week like BYU up to No. 2 from No. 8, Tennessee jumping 10 spots to No. 4, Kentucky soaring into the top 10, and Texas plummeting from No. 7 all the way to just inside the top 20.

Oh, and there will be a new Big Ten team sliding into the top 25 behind Northwestern and it’ll be the winner of Oregon vs. Nebraska.

What a week.
