Michigan State fans, it’s time to avert your eyes once again because the college football AP Top 25 projections are here and, once again, the Spartans will have a helping hand in another Big Ten team’s increased Top 25 votes because of another blowout.

Wisconsin thumped Michigan State 31-3 and it feels like the program is as lifeless as it has been at any point in the past 5-6 years and that’s because of a combination of injuries, poor coaching, and a lack of talent. While there’s still belief in Pat Fitzgerald, that can quickly fade if he doesn’t make some changes.

Wisconsin will be the only new team in the AP Top 25 this week because only one team will be dropping and even that would be controversial. After getting blown out at home in a prove-it game against No. 7 Alabama, No. 16 Mississippi State is going to drop from the rankings just as quickly as it soared in. The Bulldogs still have some rebuilding to do.

Alabama had one of the best wins of the week but the Tide were joined by Miami who went into Clemson and came away with a double-digit win, Ohio State handled No. 14 Iowa, Missouri dominated Florida, and Kentucky stormed back from down double-digits to beat South Carolina in overtime.

Conference action is making every week’s slate more exciting than the previous one and Week 5 was no exception. The SEC had 10 teams in the Top 25 this past week and the Big Ten was relatively close behind with six but the gap is going to close a little this week with the Badgers jumping in (thanks a lot, MSU) and Mississippi State dropping.

The superior conference standings are narrowing.

Week 6 AP Top 25 college football rankings projections

We won’t have a new No. 1 team, but the top 6-7 teams are beginning to separate themselves.

Voters might be a little harsh because it was a prove-it week for a lot of teams like Iowa, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Missouri, Florida, and a few others. Some passed the test, some failed. The failures will see significant drops while the winners saw nice boosts.

Iowa, Florida, and Mississippi State are all going to see some pretty hefty drops while Missouri, Kentucky, and Wisconsin are going to see nice jumps.

Also, there will be a flip in the top seven between Alabama and Indiana only because the AP voters are going to have to reward Alabama for going into Starkville and leaving with a 30-point win. BYU is also going to see a nice boost into the top 10 at No. 8 because they went to TCU and hung on for a tough Big 12 win. The rest of the rankings are relatively predictable.

There will be some top-10 movement and a new ranked team or two.
