Tre Holloman posts photo with cryptic message while visiting Michigan State

I guess it’s already eyeball emoji season.

If you thought that you would never hear the name Tre Holloman again, you were sadly mistaken. The former Spartan shooting guard who transferred away from Tom Izzo to play for snake-oil salesman Will Wade at NC State is apparently back on campus today.

This isn’t surprising considering he has friends who still attend Michigan State, but he shared a cryptic message on the photo he posted from his visit.

Holloman shared a picture from inside the practice facility with an interesting message on it.

I don’t necessarily think that “…” followed by the “shh” emoji is enough to really sound any alarms about this visit being anything more than just Holloman hanging out with friends and getting shots up, but you never know during the transfer portal era. Also, that last sentence is something that I never thought I’d be writing out in my journalistic career, but here we are.

Holloman is a polarizing figure in East Lansing and the fans who remained loyal to him even when he wasn’t loyal to Michigan State are probably jumping for joy and hoping for his return.

I don’t think that there’s any roster space for Holloman, and if a fifth year was an option for anyone, I’d just go ahead and assume that Tom Izzo would utilize it for Carson Cooper instead.

Maybe Holloman is going the Matt McQuaid route and returning shortly after his playing days as a grad assistant.

There’s a non-zero chance that this is something.

Tre Holloman is living with regrets

Holloman’s decision to transfer last offseason was a lose-lose situation for both Michigan State and the soon-to-be senior point guard. He had a chance to become a Michigan State legend and build on that Big Ten title and Elite Eight run as the team’s sixth man and become a starter and 25-plus minute-per-night guard.

Unfortunately, he fell for whatever Wade sold him at NC State and he had a similar — if not lesser — role with the Wolfpack. After the season Izzo admitted that a former player had told him that he made a mistake. Everyone knew who he was referring to.

Now that Holloman is technically in the transfer portal and awaiting a potential fifth-year ruling, any campus visit that he makes is notable, especially if it’s too a school that he attended and regrets leaving.

I doubt there’s another chance being worked up by Izzo, but I guess you never really know these days.
