Tom Izzo hasn't had the best week so far. Although nothing crazy has happened, his top remaining target for the 2025-26 season, Darius Adams, just committed to Maryland.

That means that Izzo has finished second for Adams two times now.

Following Adams' commitment to Maryland, he had to immediately turn his attention to that final roster spot that needs to be filled by a guard, but he also needs to get started on his 2026 class. He currently has zero commitments in the 2026 cycle and recruiting for that class has been quiet.

On Tuesday, Izzo reportedly sent an assistant to check in on one of the top shooting guards in the class, four-star Steven Reynolds from South Bend, Ind.

Reynolds is a 6-foot-5, 170-pound shooting guard who's being recruited by a host of Big Ten teams like Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, and Rutgers. Other programs such as Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Mississippi State, and DePaul have also reached out.

This is going to be a tough recruitment to win, but Izzo has beaten out these Big Ten teams for top talent before and Reynolds feels like an attainable prospect.

Plus, being able to sell playing time works in Michigan State's favor here as Jeremy Fears Jr. and Kur Teng are currently the only returning guards for the 2026-27 season so Reynolds would be able to compete for minutes there early on.

Reynolds is the No. 75 overall recruit and 13th-best shooting guard in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports. He's also Indiana's No. 1 prospect. Right now, it looks like Purdue is the favorite to land him, but don't count Izzo out.
