There haven’t been too many public offers for Tom Izzo and Michigan State in the 2027 class, and that’s kind of how the Hall of Fame head coach likes it.
He likes to work in silence on the recruiting trail and it usually pays off with a surprise commitment followed by a domino effect. That’s happened in several recruiting classes over the past decade, starting with 2016 and then 2023 and now most recently the 2026 class. One commit spirals into 3-4 in a short period of time.
Although the 2027 offers have been kept on the down-low for the most part, one had been made public back in January because it was to an in-state legacy recruit.
Izzo offered unranked East Lansing shooting guard Kingston Thomas who’s the son of former Michigan State basketball player David Thomas who then became the director of operations for six years from 2015-2021. So it’s pretty obvious that Kingston has been around the program for most of his life because of his dad and now Izzo is interested in adding him to his 2027 class.
Although he’s currently unranked with some modest offers, one NBA draft expert believes that he could be one of the summer’s biggest recruiting risers after transferring to La Lumiere and standing out at Canada’s U17 training for the World Cup.
Canadian prospect news!

‘27 Kingston Thomas is heading to La Lumiere for his senior season! The 6’4
G/W was a big standout in Canada’s U17 training camp for the World Cup. Elite athlete and glue guy who has the potential to rise up boards after a strong summer
It’s nice to hear that one of the only offers in the 2027 class has the potential to be a huge riser up recruiting boards this summer because the transfer to La Lumiere shows he’s serious about making a name for himself and attracting other blue blood programs.
Thomas was also dubbed an “elite athlete and glue guy” which is something that Izzo values when looking at recruiting. He seems to be a perfect fit, but he’s going to have plenty of potential suitors soon.
Kingston Thomas is Michigan State’s only listed 2027 offer
If you go by 247Sports, the only offer that Michigan State has sent out in the 2027 class is to Thomas. Although I do believe that more offers have been extended to other top recruits, it’s notable that he’s the only one listed on 247Sports.
To me, this shows that Izzo is focusing in on the former East Lansing star. He really wants to land an elite point guard in the 2027 class, but he’s also looking to add an “elite athlete” at shooting guard.
There’s a long way to go in the 2027 class, but I’d expect some type of commitment news this summer for the Spartans. Whether that’s Kingston Thomas before a potential recruiting breakout remains to be seen. Izzo may want to lock Thomas up before other big programs get involved.
