Michigan State may be Point Guard University, so you better believe the next great floor general is on his way to East Lansing. In the wake of Jeremy Fears Jr. becoming a star for the Spartans, next up for Tom Izzo's team could be the likes of Carlos Medlock Jr. The prized recruit out of Branson, Missouri signed with Michigan State back in Nov. 2025. Izzo took the time to watch him star at Link Academy.
As you can see, Izzo was thoroughly impressed by Medlock's 21-point effort for Link Academy here.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Medlock is the No. 4 player from Missouri, the No. 5 point guard in the country, and the No. 52 overall player nationally in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Medlock had 12 official offers. He took an official visit to Michigan State on Oct. 3, signing a little more than a month later on Nov. 12. Other teams like Iowa, Michigan, Creighton, and Oklahoma State wanted him.
Medlock seemed to have his mind made up from the jump that he was going to play for Coach Izzo.
Tom Izzo could not be more fired up to see Carlos Medlock Jr. in-person
Look. Even though Izzo may have a little more time on his hands right now with the Spartans' season ending earlier than expected, you can see he is still putting in the work on the recruiting trail. Medlock might already be signed and coming to Michigan State, but to see him put on a performance like this in person should register quite a bit. After all, Izzo may have big plans for him right away next season.
For as much as Fears has been a sensational point guard for the Spartans, you would be lying to yourself if you were not at least somewhat intrigued with who could be next. Medlock seems to have the chops to be ready for the big moment. Again, he chose to come to Michigan State very early in the process. We only have so many more years left of Izzo calling the shots from the MSU sidelines.
At this time, Michigan State has to figure out how it can go even further in next year's NCAA Tournament. The 2025-26 Spartans were phenomenally coached, one that never played down to lesser competition. That being said, there were often times where we were hoping for a second, maybe even a third, gear that this could go to offensively. It never seemed to fire on all cylinders.
So when it comes to the allure of what Medlock can bring to the table, it is so easy to get excited.
