In case you've been living under a rock over the past couple of weeks, Michigan State basketball is reportedly getting back into the Darius Adams sweepstakes as the five-star combo guard decommitted from UConn and reopened his recruitment.
Before he committed to UConn months ago, Michigan State and Tennessee were his other finalists and many expected them to get back into his recruitment.
And both have.
The Spartans are showing interest and reaching out to Adams while Tennessee, too, is right there vying for his services. He's also reportedly considering Alabama, Maryland, and Georgetown -- he visited the latter two this past weekend.
Tennessee may be the Spartans' biggest threat in this recruitment, but a recent roster addition by the Volunteers may have just improved Tom Izzo's chances with Adams.
Potential impact for the Adams sweepstakes. Doesn’t hurt MSU’s chances Tenn is adding bodies at his position. https://t.co/A0b6MfnNFR

Tennessee landed Amaree Abram from Louisiana Tech who plays the same position as Adams and the Volunteers are also bringing in four-star shooting guard Amari Evans, three-star point guard Troy Henderson, and elite transfer guard Ja'Kobi Gillespie in this offseason's haul which means there may be too many cooks in the kitchen in Knoxville.
In East Lansing, Michigan State is desperately looking for another guard to take pressure off the ball-handling duties of Jeremy Fears Jr. and I don't think Trey Fort is going to comfortably do that.
Nor is Kur Teng.
That means the Spartans need a guy who is comfortable handling the ball for 10-15 minutes a game and playing that Jase Richardson role where he can handle the point when Fears is out and play off the ball and hunt his shots when Jeremy is on the floor. Adams can do that.
The opportunity to play big minutes for a contender is starting to look more realistic in East Lansing than it is in Knoxville, especially after this addition by Rick Barnes.
Maryland, Georgetown, and Alabama are still major threats, though.
