The race is on. Just days after he announced he would be decommitting from UConn, Darius Adams' phone had to blow up with calls from the likes of Tennessee, Alabama, and Michigan State basketball.

The former top Spartan target committed to UConn months ago over the likes of Michigan State and Tennessee and it felt like the door had been shut. It was a tough loss for the Spartans who were hoping to land an elite combo guard in their 2025 class, but Tom Izzo seemed content to finish with Jordan Scott and Cam Ward.

However, things have changed dramatically.

The Spartans have lost Tre Holloman to the transfer portal and Jase Richardson to the NBA draft. Those are two guys they expected to have heading into next season. Now, both are gone and Jeremy Fears Jr. was left in the backcourt by himself.

Kur Teng will get a bigger role next season and Tom Izzo brought Trey Fort in from the transfer portal, so that gives the Spartans three guys in the backcourt. But one more would really solidify things and ease Izzo's mind, so when Adams went back on the market, you know he was giving the five-star guard a call. It's since been confirmed by multiple sources.

According to a report from Spartans Illustrated, Michigan State has its eyes on the elite 2025 class guard from La Lumiere in La Porte, Ind.

This isn't going to be an easy pursuit, however, as Rick Barnes and Tennessee are also calling the five-star combo guard from La Lumiere, according to Mike Wilson. The Volunteers haven't given up on Adams yet either which makes this race interesting as it's between his two other finalists before he committed to UConn. Oh, and you can throw Nate Oats and Alabama into the mix.

Adams could be a game-changer for the Spartans next season, handling some point guard duties when Fears needs a breather and the playing time will be there for him in East Lansing.

Tennessee might be a problem here, though.
