If you've been down on Michigan State football this season, you should feel lucky that you're not a Wisconsin fan. The Badgers are 2-2 on the year after losing to Alabama and then at home to Maryland last weekend to kick off Big Ten play. It's been a disastrous start for Luke Fickell.
Just how bad has it been? Fans are already calling for the head coach's job, and some replacement names are popping up. One of them is very familiar to Michigan State fans: Mel Tucker.
OK, so this isn't a name shared by many Wisconsin fans and I'd be willing to bet that a good majority of them would be strongly opposed to Tucker as the next head coach of the Badgers, but it was a name floated around on a message board after the Maryland loss.
And it was captured by Message Board Geniuses on X.

The fan posted that they had floated the idea of Mel Tucker around before, but he wants an alum with some recruiting juice, and the former Michigan State head coach would be the best recruiter that Wisconsin has ever had. This idea, however, was greeted with 22 down votes.
Honestly, though, the fan brought up a good point. A lot of Wisconsin fans have been talking about Pat Fitzgerald as a replacement for Fickell, but he, too, went through a scandal of his own which is why he was fired at Northwestern. He isn't a good enough recruiter for some fans, though. That's why Tucker's name was brought into this.
Tucker did play college ball at Wisconsin before pursuing a pro career and ultimately ending up in the coaching realm. He was a strong recruiter at Michigan State, but his Xs and Os coaching could use a lot of work. He did lead Michigan State to an 11-win season, so that has to intrigue some Wisconsin fans.
Either way, it sounds like they're so down bad after this 2-2 start that they're willing to look at coaches who were fired during scandals (Tucker, Fitzgerald).
It's hard to believe that most MSU fans wanted Fickell back in 2020.
