A respected outlet had some good things to say about Michigan State running back transfer Cam Edwards from UConn.

The 1,240-yard rusher from this past season has been receiving high praise from most college football and transfer portal experts. He was one of the best running backs in the Group of Five last season, totaling 1,240 rushing yards, 187 receiving yards, and 16 total touchdowns for the Huskies in 2025.

Now, he's a Spartan.

Edwards became the second former UConn running back to transfer to Michigan State over the past few years alone, following Nate Carter in the latter stages of the Mel Tucker era and first year of Jonathan Smith. Carter was never truly helped out by Michigan State's offensive line, and it led to him finishing with just 1,297 yards and nine rushing touchdowns over his two seasons in East Lansing.

Still, he became a pro and made the Atlanta Falcons' roster this past season. He was an NFL talent that could've used better coaching and a better offensive line.

Edwards should have both of those. And if he does, that'll be a scary sight for the rest of the Big Ten seeing as he's the second highest-graded running back transfer this offseason, per PFF.

Edwards is right behind North Texas transfer Caleb Hawkins who's now at Oklahoma State. He was one of the most sought-after running backs in the portal, and now he's going to be manning Michigan State's new-look backfield to begin the Pat Fitzgerald era.

The coaching staff feels like it has upgraded at just about every spot, including head coach and offensive line coach. That means that Edwards is in a better position to succeed than Carter was.

It's a great time to have an elite running back transfer again, especially after watching Kenneth Walker III win Super Bowl MVP with the Seattle Seahawks. He came to Michigan State as a Wake Forest transfer, dominated behind a so-so offensive line, and won the Doak Walker Award and probably should have been a Heisman finalist.

Edwards has some lofty expectations to live up to, but he's gotten better every year he's been at the FBS level, so here's to hoping that continues in 2026.
