This week kicked off with a bang (again) for Michigan State football as another official visit weekend wrapped up on Sunday only to yield even more commitments.

This time, it was in-state offensive tackle prospect Tristan Comer who joined the class.

The three-star offensive tackle from Freeland, Mich., wasn't exactly on anyone's radar in terms of potentially commitments because he was a relatively quiet addition to the weekend's visitor's list, but he was offered shortly after and immediately committed.

Comer was also highly considering West Virginia, Oregon State, and Northwestern before he committed to the Spartans, giving them their fourth offensive lineman in the class. He committed just four days after Michigan State landed its top recruit in the class (also a lineman), Collin Campbell.

Although Comer isn't a highly-rated recruit, listed as the No. 105 offensive tackle and No. 21 Michigan-based prospect, he's being compared to a former Michigan State starting left tackle.

Allen Trieu is one of the best recruiting experts in the Midwest and to hear him compare this converted tight end to another who took the same route to Michigan State is refreshing. Many fans don't know much about Comer, but Trieu studies these guys extensively and he said his game and frame remind him of Cole Chewins at the same age.

For those who don't know about Chewins, he came to Michigan State as a tight end and converted to an offensive lineman where he appeared in 37 games and made 25 starts at left tackle.

Not too shabby to be compared to a guy who started all 13 games at left tackle during a 10-win season back in 2017. That should get fans excited about this pickup.

While Comer has some work to do if he wants to live up to that billing, he does has the type of frame that could help him get there. Being a former tight end, he should have great footwork and athleticism that should aid him.

Jonathan Smith just continues to cook.
