Priority 4-star WR target locks in official visit with Michigan State

Courtney Hawkins could land himself another gem.

Folks, Pat Fitzgerald and Courtney Hawkins are at it again. The Michigan State head coach-receivers coach duo has been recruiting well ever since teaming up back in December.

The Spartans have landed some impressive wideouts over the past few months and they’re also retaining some key guys. Although Nick Marsh is moving on, it feels like Hawkins is just reloading his room and given his track record, you kind of have to trust him.

Speaking of Hawkins’ track record, he’s produced several NFL wideouts including Jayden Reed and Jalen Nailor who both got huge paydays this offseason. He’s also partially responsible for Ricky White, Germie Bernard, and Keon Coleman — the latter more so than White and Bernard.

We will also be able to give him some credit for Marsh when he goes pro after the 2026 season with Indiana and I have a gut feeling that Omari Kelly is going to see some NFL action this year.

All of this success as a receivers coach has made recruiting a little easier on Hawkins. It doesn’t take a ton to get top receiver prospects interested.

Just this week, he locked in a huge official visit with one of the best receivers in the 2027 class. Four-star wideout Ronnie Gomiller from East St. Louis, Ill., locked in his official visit with the Spartans for the middle of June where he’s currently the lone visitor that weekend, per Corey Robinson of 247Sports.

The fact that he’s the only visitor might not seem like a good thing, but I’d assume this sets off a domino effect and more priority prospects — and maybe a commit or two — will lock in visits that weekend. It also means that Gomiller is going to get the red carpet treatment and although there will likely be more visitors that weekend, it’s a good chance for the staff to make him feel like the priority.

Quick update: Michigan State already scheduled another WR visitor for that same day. That may actually help the Spartans’ chances if they click on their visit.

Michigan State is currently the favorite to land Gomiller on 247Sports with Utah, Cincinnati, and Iowa State also in the running. He’s the No. 437 prospect in the 2027 class.

Michigan State is still looking for its first WR commit

Fitzgerald has grown Michigan State’s 2027 recruiting class to seven over the past five months, really taking advantage of some spring visits, but he has yet to land a receiver.

He’s done a pretty good job of addressing several key positions like the offensive line, quarterback, and defensive line, but the Spartans are also going to need some receiver depth.

Gomiller will be made a priority on his visit because he has the opportunity to be ‘the guy’ at receiver in this class. He could help build a solid corps around him with some recruiting of his own if he were to commit with top targets like Don Spillers, Maliek Brown, Steele Harris (assuming he’s a receiver), and Arnold Mugerwa.

I like Michigan State’s chances to add a four-star receiver to its 2027 class after Gomiller’s visit.
