Michigan State fans were a bit let down last week when four-star defensive back Gideon Gash announced an official visit schedule with no trip to East Lansing planned.
The Spartans already roster his older brothers and that has to play a role in his recruitment, but when he planned his officials, that wasn’t enough to lock Michigan State in. It’s not the best look to have Caleb Gash already years deep into his Spartan career and Samson Gash signed as an incoming freshman and not get a visit from the youngest of the Gash brothers.
It’s going to take more of an effort than many of us expected for Pat Fitzgerald. It was never going to be a sure thing, but a visit sure seemed like a lock.
Don’t rule that official visit out just yet. The youngest Gash has given Michigan State fans hope.
After every Spartan fan hovered over the panic button following his visit schedule announcement, Gash said something that should talk everyone off the ledge.
Family ties + strong relationships keep Michigan State in the mix for 2027 four-star ATH Gideon Gash.

“I already got brothers there, so it just feels super comfortable, super homey.”

Calling Michigan State “homey” is a good sign because that’s the common word used among recruits when they commit to the Spartans. East Lansing is called “home” and the program is usually described as a family. Gideon has to feel that family-like atmosphere tenfold seeing as he does actually have brothers on the team.
Gash has visits to Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Alabama so far, but I could see him scheduling one to Michigan State in the fall if he doesn’t get on in next month.
Fitzgerald is facing an uphill battle, but he has the most “homey” program on Gideon’s list.
Gideon Gash is a must-land recruit for Pat Fitzgerald
Landing a four-star who happens to have skyrocketed in the recruiting rankings over the past few months would be huge for Fitzgerald and would almost certainly lead to a domino effect in the 2027 class — especially in-state.
Unfortunately, it’s going to be a battle until signing day for the top-100 prospect from Detroit Catholic Central, but if his older brothers have a good season and rave to him about the new coaching staff, I like Michigan State’s chances. There’s a lot riding on this first Fitzgerald season.
The youngest Gash is ranked No. 70 in the 2027 class and he’s also the No. 2 prospect from the state of Michigan, per 247Sports.
If the Spartans can make the postseason, Samson has a decent freshman year at wide receiver, and both brothers speak highly of Fitzgerald, Michigan State is going to be in a good spot with Gideon. A lot of factors are in play, but all are very doable to land one of the nation’s top defensive backs.
