Where is Michigan State football ranked in 247Sports’ Team Talent rankings?
There have been so many college football rankings that have been released this offseason, especially as the season approaches. The AP Poll is the highlight of them all, but even other college football analysts have done their best at ranking every single FBS team, with most not being so friendly to Michigan State football.
But a new ranking was just released by 247Sports, and this ranking takes all of the bias out of the equation.
247Sports compiled all of their past high school recruiting rankings and combined them into one to show which team’s have the most talent in the country based off their own recruiting rankings. And Michigan State is actually ranked pretty fairly for once.
The Spartans currently have 19 four-star players on their roster with the rest of the team coming in as three-stars or lower. This is good enough for Michigan State to come in as the No. 41 team in the country based on these 247Sports rankings. MSU also checks in as the No. 12 team in the Big Ten.
Now these rankings obviously don’t take into account the team’s coaching staffs or how good or bad the players have been once they arrived in college. Take Purdue for example who is the No. 10 team in the Big Ten in these rankings but have been routinely ranked at the very bottom by college football experts. So these rankings by 247Sports clearly do not tell the full story.
But in all honesty, I think they ranked Michigan State very fairly. Most college football experts who have released rankings have Michigan State way too low in my opinion. I’m talking not even cracking the top 60 and in one extreme case not even making the top 80. But these rankings by 247Sports has MSU as the No. 41 team in the country which sounds very accurate to me.
Now we’ll have to see how Jonathan Smith and his staff use this talent. And if his time at Oregon State tells us anything, he’ll have his players playing much better than what their recruiting rankings would indicate and Michigan State will probably finish inside the top 40 at the very least this season.
