What stood out in Michigan State football's dominant win over Prairie Vies A&M
2. Confidence in Tommy Schuster is very high
One of the best things about blowing a team out is that you get to give backups a lot of playing time, and that was the case for Michigan State on Saturday.
A lot of the Spartans' reserves played well, but none were as impressive as backup quarterback Tommy Schuster.
Schuster came into the game midway through the third quarter and looked very solid, which is to be expected from a fifth year senior. But Schuster was yet to play at the Power Four level yet, so there was always a question mark in my head regarding how good he actually was.
Those questions are all gone now.
Schuster came in and was extremely efficient, completing 8/10 passes for 97 yards. He also led MSU on one touchdown drive where he ran the ball into the endzone from 1-yard out.
Aidan Chiles will always be the starter no matter what, but if something were to happen to Chiles I have a lot of faith in Schuster now. I think he’s more than capable of being able to lead this team if Chiles went down with an injury, and even though we hope to never see Schuster play meaningful minutes this year, it is nice to have a backup quarterback that we can trust just in case.
