The Jonathan Smith era at Michigan State football is officially underway as Tuesday marks the first day of fall camp. With about a month until the season begins, it’s time for the team to begin ramping up to kickoff and getting ready for the season ahead.
While it is the beginning of the Smith era today, there’s another person’s tenure that begins that excites the fanbase potentially even more.
The elite transfer has been in East Lansing since spring, but we haven’t been able to see Chiles in action outside of the Spring Showcase. Now with fall camp beginning we’ll once again get to see highlights of him in practice as we anticipate his first real game in Spartan Stadium.
To celebrate the beginning of the Chiles era at Michigan State, here are some of his highlights from Tuesday’s practice.

Now I know these aren’t the most impressive throws you’ll see in your life, but that’s likely on purpose. The staff probably doesn’t want to do anything too crazy drill wise on the first day of camp, so beginning with some nice, easy throws makes a lot of sense.
Also it seems pretty normal for the drills the team runs to be rather simple whenever the media is around. Maybe this is because they don’t want to give anything away to opponents who could view the media’s videos, but that’s what my observation has been for years now.
But some of these throws from Chiles really excites me. Maybe it’s just because I’m ready for a new beginning this season, but the zip he has on these throws is impossible to ignore.
Michigan State hasn’t had elite quarterback play in East Lansing for quite some time, but I predict that changes over the next 2-3 years wkth Chiles.
