Updating all 13 Michigan State basketball players' performances at Moneyball
7. Jaden Akins
Jaden Akins is heading into his senior season, and this offseason is extremely important for him. Akins has never been “the guy” at Michigan State, but that will change this year with the departures of Tyson Walker, Malik Hall, and AJ Hoggard.
So far, it looks like Akins is ready to take on that role.
In three Moneyball games, Akins so far is averaging 30 points per game as well as five 3-pointers a contest as well. Those stats speak for themselves, but one thing Akins is already showing is that he is the alpha on this team. That’s exactly what Michigan State needs, someone who can be a bucket-getter when the offense stalls or they find themselves in a late-clock situation.
Akins was never called upon to be that person so far in his career, but he appears to be ready to take that on. Now we just have to hope that he gets back to his shooting splits from his sophomore season which saw him shoot 42 percent from 3-point range.
If he can do that again, Akins could be a first team All-Big Ten selection this year.
