1. Jesse McCulloch

Let’s start with one of the newcomers to the team in incoming freshman big man Jesse McCulloch.

I’m always most excited to see how the new players for Michigan State do during Moneyball because this is our first-ever glimpse of them since joining the team and our first opportunity to see what they’re made of.

McCulloch got off to a slow start at Moneyball, which I’ll never penalize a freshman for. He only scored five points in his first game which was not a good first impression, but that quickly improved to 16 and 15 points in games two and three.

But it was his last time out during game four when he finally burst onto the scene. McCulloch was without teammate Frankie Fidler this game, and he made the most of the extra touches he got by scoring a whopping 35 points. He did all of his damage in the paint with some mid-range jumpers sprinkled in, but McCulloch finally showed us what he’s capable of.

I doubt McCulloch will play much this season, but knowing he can have elite glimpses like this will make me trust him more during the handful of minutes he’ll get per game this season.
