In case you missed it, former Michigan State basketball star Tyson Walker earned himself a chance to make the NBA this summer after going undrafted in the NBA Draft. Walker wasn’t signed to an NBA team as an undrafted free agent, but he was picked up by the Phoenix Suns to play with them throughout the NBA’s Summer League.

This gives him the chance to not just impress the Suns, but the rest of the NBA organizations as he looks to make an NBA roster. And impress is exactly what Walker did on Tuesday night.

Walker shines with the Suns at NBA Summer League

On Tuesday night, Walker’s Phoenix Suns lost a close game to the Indiana Pacers 98-94. But in that game, Walker showed that he belongs on an NBA court.

Walker played 22 minutes and was able to contribute eight points as well as four assists on the night. Not only was he effective on offense, but Walker also added three steals on defense as well. So Walker had himself an all around solid game, and showed what he can do both as a defender and playmaker/scorer on offense.

But his best stat of all was his plus/minus where Walker finished with a +22. He was the only Sun to finish in the double digits with some of the starters finishing higher than -20. This shows that Walker is having a positive impact on the game even when he isn’t scoring himself.

While this game on its own won’t earn Walker an NBA contract, it should earn him more playing time this summer. Walker was by far one of the top performers of all the Suns players, so hopefully he’ll be rewarded with more playing time so he has an even greater opportunity to impress the Suns and other organizations.
