Michigan State football just wrapped up its spring schedule with its Spring Showcase on Saturday, and the hope surrounding the program is at an all-time high.

There were a lot of great things that we got to see during the Showcase and some areas for improvement as well, but overall it was just awesome to see Michigan State and the new-look team back in Spartan Stadium.

After the showcase was complete, Jonathan Smith spoke with the media and shared a lot about what he loved about the team and what the future looks like for his squad this summer.

Here are the three best things he said in his press conference.

1. Smith loves what he saw from Aidan Chiles

The one thing everyone was most looking forward to on Saturday was seeing Aidan Chiles for the first time in person. And he did not disappoint. Smith said, “He looked comfortable. Guys made some plays for him in the pass game which was great to see.”

Smith also went on to say that he loved the way Chiles moved his feet and how accurate he was.

I was also impressed with Chiles. Sure it is mid-April and you can never really draw too many conclusions from this event, but so far he looks like the elite quarterback we all hoped he would be both on and off the field.

The last part of what Chris Solari with the Detroit Free Press shared in the post above is very interesting, too. I was not impressed with the Michigan State defense Saturday, but hearing that they were using their "base packages" makes me feel a little better. The goal in this was to not show too much to their opponents on film, which seems very smart to be. So maybe this had something to do with the defense’s struggles, but like I said, it's mid-April so there's no reason to overreact about anything.
