Michigan State football is in the midst of a jam-packed June. Every weekend they are hosting multiple 2025 recruits on official visits as Jonathan Smith and his staff look to climb the recruiting rankings.

That, however, hasn’t stopped Smith from looking ahead to the 2026 class and building some momentum there as well.

Gregory Patrick is a four-star offensive tackle from Portage, Mich. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 2 player from the state of Michigan in the 2026 class. He also is the No. 155 player in the country and the No. 13 offensive tackle according to the recruiting sites composite rankings as well.

The visit from Patrick is only an unofficial visit, but this still is very telling of where his interests are currently at. Sure MSU is an easy trip for him to make, but he still has to make it on his dime when he could travel to pretty much any school he wants. So there clearly is some mutual interest between Michigan State and Patrick.

Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Baylor are just a few of the other big name schools who have already offered Patrick. No predictions have been made in his recruitment yet, which is pretty standard for the class of 2026. However, with Patrick being an in-state recruit, there’s a lot of hope that that could benefit Michigan State in their pursuit of him.

There obviously is still a long ways to go in this recruitment as Patrick is in the 2026 class, but the sooner you can make relationships with the recruits the better. Hopefully Smith and his staff are able to build a strong relationship with him quickly and maybe he’ll become a leader in the 2026 MSU class in the future.
