Next up on the list is a team that is remembered for all the wrong reasons. They did have a remarkable season, going 29-6 (13-5) and the Spartans earned a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, disaster struck and this team that many, myself included, picked to win it all was bounced in the first round of the by 15-seed Middle Tennessee State.

But just like how I didn't reward the teams who went on magical March Madness runs, I'm not going to punish this team either for one bad loss. They were led by senior year Denzel Valentine who had one of the best individual seasons in Tom Izzo's era as head coach. Averaging 19.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, Valentine was unstoppable.

This squad also featured Matt Costello who nearly averaged a double-double and Bryn Forbes who shot 48 percent from three. This team, similarly to the 2014-15 squad, was about as tough as any Michigan State basketball team in program history.

They had the offensive firepower to hang with any team in the country, but could also pack it in and win a low-scoring game. That versatility is what separates this team from the last one on the list and puts it at No. 3 overall in the past decade.
