With the season right around the corner, all Michigan State football fans should be optimistically curious about what this team will look like come August.

The "experts" have the Michigan State Spartans not making a bowl game, but after looking over this roster, the pieces seem to be there. Yes, the transfer portal has taken some key starters, but the returning pieces should be better than they looked last year with getting just the minimum amount of competent coaching which is way more than they got last season.

The offense, which was worse that Iowa in terms of points per game last year, has upgraded at just about every position except offensive line which remains a wild card and could be the key to success in the 2024 season, but how does it shake out against the other position groups?

Let's rank 'em.

5. Wide Receivers

While the wide receiver room may not be top-loaded with high-end talent, they are deep with good talent, which makes this offensive group so difficult to judge.

Montorie Foster Jr. is the early favorite to be the No. 1 guy, with plenty of experience but not exactly making any pre-season watchlists. Now, a lot of that could have been the players around him last year and an offensive coordinator whose synapses connected his brain like a dial-up modem.

A new scheme and upgrade at quarterback could do wonders for this kid and this group as a whole. I can easily see Antonio Gates Jr, Jaron Glover, and newcomer Nick Marsh making impacts on this team in the coming season, but for now, it's all projection and makes this group the biggest unknown on the offensive side of the ball.
