Right Guard: Kristian Phillips

Moving one spot over to right guard, I think another redshirt sophomore in Kristian Phillips will lead the way at the position.

Phillips, who is another three-star recruit, saw less snaps than Ashton Lepo last season as he appeared in 11 games seeing 33 snaps on the offensive line. He also saw 34 snaps on special teams last season as well.

Phillips actually entered the transfer portal this offseason after the season ended, but he ultimately decided to stay put at Michigan State. This tells me that Phillips was able to build a good connection with Jonathan Smith and his staff, which I think goes a long way for the upcoming season.

This bond also helps during this offseason, which by all accounts has been a big one for Phillips. Typically year three is when you see offensive linemen make big leaps at the college level, so with a great offseason I think that will happen for Phillips this season.

All of Phillips’ snaps last year came at right guard, so we’re going to keep him there for this season. This time however he will be the lead guy at the position instead of a reserve.
