Running Back: Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams

Running back is a tricky choice because the Spartans have two capable backs at their disposal this year.

First you have Nate Carter who will be returning for his second season at Michigan State. Carter had a solid season last year where he tallied 185 carries for 798 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 103 receiving yards on 22 catches.

Most of you will probably think Carter will be the starter, but I’m going to make a bold prediction here.

Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams is a newcomer to the team after transferring from UMass. However, he’s still my prediction to be the starter out of the backfield. Lynch-Adams had a monster year last season with UMass where he racked up 236 carries for 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also accumulated 118 yards receiving on 20 catches.

Now don’t get me wrong, both Lynch-Adams and Carter will see a lot of snaps this year, potentially splitting them 50/50, but I do think Lynch-Adams is the slightly better back. He has more experience than Carter as he’s entering his sixth season and also has a better yards per carry average than Carter as well.

For those reasons, and the large difference in touchdown totals, I think the newcomer Lynch-Adams will start game one for Michigan State.
