Previewing Michigan State athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics
3. Tori Franklin, Triple jump
Last but not least is Tori Franklin, who also qualified for the Paris Olympics in track and field.
Franklin will be competing in the triple jump for the second straight Olympics as she finished 25th at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She also has vast experience in the World Championships in this event, with her most recent appearance in 2023 when she finished in 12th place.
Franklin’s best finish at the World Championships was in 2022 when she shocked the world and took home the bronze medal. This performance made her the first American woman to medal in the triple jump at the World Championships ever.
Franklin competed at Michigan State from 2011-2015 and was named Michigan State Freshman of the Year in her first season. She then went on to be an All-Big Ten selection and All-American three times throughout her career. And to top her college career off, she was the indoor Big Ten triple jump champion during her senior season and still holds the Michigan State triple jump school record.
Franklin may be a stretch to medal at the Olympics this year, but she has shown she can accomplish that at the World Championships. So don’t count her out just yet when she competes on Aug. 2.
