Previewing Michigan State athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics
2. Heath Baldwin, Decathlon
Next up is Heath Baldwin, who is representing Team USA in Track and Field in the decathlon. This 10-event contest spans two days, with the winner being named the best athlete in the world.
Baldwin qualified for the games in the United States Olympic Trials where he took first place in this event. This sets Baldwin up perfectly as he is now riding as much momentum as possible as he heads to Paris.
Baldwin just finished his final year at Michigan State where he was the Big Ten champion in the Decathlon. He also was a first-team All-American both in outdoor and indoor Track and Field as well. Baldwin will continue to compete as a professional now that his college career is complete, but he has his sights set on winning a medal for the United States first.
Even though he won the Decathlon at the US Olympic trials, winning a medal at the Olympics will be very challenging. He may be No. 1 in the United States but he’s only No. 6 in the world rankings. So Baldwin will have his work cut out for him Aug. 1-2 when the Decathlon takes place.
