It only took seven rounds, but Michigan State football finally had its first player chosen in the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday evening in Detroit.

After going six full rounds without a Spartan selected, they finally saw their first player chosen in this year's selection process with offensive lineman Nick Samac selected at No. 228 overall by the Baltimore Ravens. He was the first, and only, Spartan selected in this draft process.

It actually marks the end of the Mel Tucker era at Michigan State as the former head coach's first draft class didn't have a single player selected and now his last class only has one.

We can now move on from the nightmare that was the last few years in East Lansing.

It was a tough year for Michigan State football draft hopefuls as guys like Tre Mosley, Aaron Brule, and Jacoby Windmon had to wait to hear their names called and while they weren't drafted, there were teams that called to sign them shortly after the draft. While this wasn't ideal, it was a good sign that NFL teams were still looking at these Spartan prospects.

Samac, however, was the only Spartan chosen this year and he kept a new streak alive. While the long streak was broken just a few years ago, he kept a new one alive on Saturday.

We'll see if Jonathan Smith can continue this new draft streak in 2025, and my guess is that he'll have no problem doing so.

The Ravens got a good one on the interior in Samac.
