Nick Marsh is unaffected by standout performance against Maryland

Nick Marsh has the perfect mindset.

At this point, we all know how impressive freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh was in the Spartans' win against Maryland this past weekend. Eight catches for 194 yards and a touchdown will surely raise eyebrows no matter who the player is, but it gets taken to another level when a 17-year-old true freshman pulls that off.

With such an elite performance coming in just his second career game there is one major concern that I have, if this will get to Marsh’s head.

But by the sounds of it, that is not the case. In fact, the exact opposite appears to be happening.

Michigan State wide receiver coach Courtney Hawkins shared on Wednesday how Marsh is handling the aftermath of his game against Maryland, and it’s everything you would want to see.

"He (Nick Marsh) is coming off this huge game and you would think he only caught one pass. He is great for Michigan State, outside of football. He's a great kid to have on campus."

Courtney Hawkins

Hawkins shared that Marsh is acting like he is coming off a bad game versus the life changing game that we saw him pull off. Marsh is moving on from that game and is showing more motivation then ever before, and that is surprising to see from such a young player.

The last thing we would want is Marsh to get full of himself and then sink into the shadows for the rest of the season, but that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Hawkins also shared that Marsh is the perfect player for the program and the community, which again is something I wouldn’t expect to hear from someone so young. This is the type of player you need if you want your program to be successful, and I feel more and more lucky that Marsh is a Spartan every day.

The future is insanely bright for Marsh if this is the mindset he has for his career, and I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he ends his career as one of the best receivers in Michigan State history.
