In case you missed it, last week Michigan State football announced two Friday night games on their 2024 schedule. Those games are the road game at Oregon on Oct. 4 and a late-season home game against Purdue on Nov. 22.

Many fans were upset about this news for a few reasons as Friday night games can be tough to get to after work or school. Also is the fact that tailgating is severely limited for these games as well. However, one of the biggest reasons people were upset, myself included, was because it now seemed unlikely that MSU's week one game would be on a Friday which has become the norm over the past 15, or so, years.

That however isn't the case anymore.

Earlier on Thursday it was announced that Michigan State's season opener against Florida Atlantic at Spartan Stadium is moving to Friday night, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. ET. While I already mentioned that there are a lot of negative things to Friday night games, I love that MSU's season opener is once again falling on a Friday.

With week one always falling on Labor Day, it's nice to get the game out of the way leaving more time to travel out of town for the rest of the weekend. It also is awesome to see this become a mini tradition for Michigan State as the Spartans week one game has been moved to Friday for the better part of two decades now.

The hype surrounding Jonathan Smith's first season is continuing to grow, and now we have to wait one less day for the season to get here. Michigan State currently is an 11 point favorite against Florida Atlantic, but I hope they get the Smith era started with a bang in a blow out win over the Owls.
