National media calls out Michigan State football amongst Michigan scandal
I’m sure you all have been like me and have been following the Michigan sign stealing scandal very closely over the last few days. But in case you missed it, the NCAA just confirmed that it was in fact Michigan staff member Connor Stalions on Central Michigan’s sideline during Michigan State football’s first game last season.
Now you would think most of the media’s attention would be firmly on Jim Harbaugh and the entire Michigan program as this is a serious scandal that is unraveling. That, however, hasn’t been the case.
Michigan has deservedly received their fair share of lashings from the media, but for some unknown reason Michigan State and Ohio State are being receiving all the blame by one mainstream media member.
Colin Cowherd.
I’m sure most of you have heard of Cowherd as he hosts a major radio show every day on FS1. I personally am a fan of his show, but he is known to be a homer when it comes to Michigan and Jim Harbaugh. And that rang true earlier this week when he slammed Michigan’s two biggest rivals over this scandal instead of the program who actually did something wrong.
"And you know who was really going after him (Harbaugh)? Michigan State and Ohio State. They're the ones getting all riled up here, as Harbaugh started rolling them."
- Colin Cowherd
Such an interesting and frankly unhinged thing to say. The fact that Michigan started winning during this scandal is irrelevant (and honestly speaks to the advantage they gained from cheating), but they were proven to have done something wrong and that’s all that should matter. Yet somehow the blame’s being deflected to two programs who are rightfully calling out their rival for cheating.
But it gets so much worse.
"I still don't know what Ohio State's offense is. It's pretty. It's not physical. I don't know what Michigan State is either, other than a gigantic tire fire. But I know what Harbaugh's teams are, and I know what Jim Harbaugh is."
- Colin Cowherd
So not only did Cowherd take the blame off of Michigan and put it firmly on MSU and OSU, now he’s completely changing the subject to trash both of their programs. And he’s doing all this for the sole purpose of trying to make Harbaugh look innocent.
May I remind you that Harbaugh has been suspended three separate times in an 11-month span. That has to be some sort of a record.
But instead of focusing on where the real story is, Cowherd let his bias run crazy and verbally destroy two programs who have done nothing wrong.
Cowherd has always been a polarizing figure in sports media, but this latest example from him is disrespectful and frankly embarrassing. Both Michigan State and Ohio State deserve an apology, but unfortunately that probably won’t ever come from Cowherd or Michigan.
