The excitement for the start of fall camp was palpable on Tuesday as Michigan State football players took the field for the first time since the spring.

The media showed up for the first day of fall practice and got to speak to Jonathan Smith and a couple of the players after and they had some interesting things to say. They all spoke highly of the team morale and how everything looks and feels different this season compared to last and it sounds as if the program has been injected with new life.

New life can also come in the form of newcomers such as freshman phenom Nick Marsh who has been turning heads left and right.

One of the guys most impressed with the true freshman wideout is veteran wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr., the presumed leader of the receiving corps.

He had nothing but high praise for his new teammate.

"Oh Nick (Marsh is) different," Foster said. "We call him Megatron for a reason. He's that guy that go make big plays down the field -- big-body guy. And I just can't wait to see him play on Saturdays."

You could see the excitement in Foster's face when he was asked about Marsh. He's getting some major help in the receiving corps and you could tell he's excited about that and he was glowing when he talked about his true freshman teammate. You don't often see that from veterans when speaking on incoming freshmen.

But it feels like Nick is different. He's a special talent.

If there was ever a case of a true freshman ready to explode onto the scene and become a star for Michigan State football, Nick Marsh is it.
