It's hard to believe that Week 5 is already upon us and Saturday's Michigan State vs. Ohio State game was circled on a lot of Spartan fans' calendars because it would be the first true litmus test for Jonathan Smith.

The last head coach, Mel Tucker, struggled mightily against the Buckeyes, never staying within a few touchdowns in this game. He never seemed to have a pulse when it came to coaching against the Buckeyes and it was a major red flag throughout his tenure.

Fans are hoping for better results from Smith who has injected some life back into the program and a close game with the Buckeyes would have people buying in.

Unfortunately, the Spartans won't be at full-strength on Saturday night as they've been bitten hard by the injury bug. Ohio State, too, has some injuries, but nothing like Michigan State's.

Michigan State

OUT: OL Gavin Broscious (ankle), OL Kristian Phillips (leg), DB Khalil Majeed (lower body), DB Dillon Tatum (lower body), WR Alante Brown (upper body), CB Chance Rucker (arm)
QUESTIONABLE: WR Nick Marsh (knee), WR Antonio Gates Jr. (undisclosed)
PROBABLE: S Malik Spencer (ankle), WR Jaron Glover (undisclosed), DB Angelo Grose (undisclosed)

Ohio State

QUESTIONABLE: RB Rashid SeSay (undisclosed), DL Tyleik Williams (undisclosed), OL Donovan Jackson (undisclosed), WR Reis Stocksdale (undisclosed)

As you can clearly see, Michigan State has a much more serious injury problem than Ohio State. I'm not downplaying Ohio State's four questionable players, but the Spartans have been ravaged by season-ending injuries as well as other long-term injuries.

Hopefully this doesn't haunt the Spartans on Saturday.
