Out of seemingly nowhere, Michigan State football is suddenly on commit watch. That's a little weird to say considering college football is at the height of the transfer portal and the class of 2025 recruiting cycle, but this potential commitment came out of nowhere.

This past Sunday, the Spartans had a surprise visitor, at least to us fans, when Edward Woods, who is one of the top cornerbacks in the transfer portal, announced that he was heading to Michigan State for an official visit. This visit was so surprising because he was fresh off a visit to Alabama, and everyone thought he was a lock to commit to the Tide. Not only was he viewed as an Alabama lock, but pretty much everyone thought Woods would commit during his visit.

That's when Jonathan Smith had something to say in this recruitment.

Smith and his staff were able to convince Woods to take a visit to Michigan State while he was on his visit to Alabama. That in itself is no small feat, but Smith was able to flex his muscles against one of the top programs in the country.

Now we head into Tuesday, April 30, and it's already decision day for Woods.

Late Monday night, On3 insider Steve Wiltfong placed an official prediction for Michigan State to win Woods’ recruitment. Wiltfong is one of the most “in the know” insiders out there, so when he makes a prediction he tends to be right.

Even though Michigan State seems to be the leader, Smith and his staff still need to close, but what a huge commitment this would be. Woods wouldn't be the best commit that Smith's earned in his short tenure at Michigan State, but it would be his most impressive recruiting win.

But if you're still searching for another reason to be excited, here's a subtle hint from On3 Michigan State reporter Kenny Jordan.

Woods feels like a Spartan already.
